RUDE MECHS TEAM WITH CTG/MARK TAPER FORUM!

Rude Mechs, received a commission for I’VE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY from Center Theatre Group, Los Angeles, made possible with a generous grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. With music and lyrics by Austin experimental punker Peter Stopschinski and book and lyrics by Kirk Lynn, INBSH is an exploration of the wild frontiers of gender, parenthood, and the west. A transmedia performance party that purposely defies definition, Rude Mechs invites you to experience a sort of western carnival. All this plus a dachshund race, three jokes about rope, a seven-piece band, eight singers, three video puppeteers, and a tiny dance team come together to create a wild west wonderland you’ll never forget.

TPO in NYC - Sold Out!

“The thrills are constant! By performance’s end, the butterflies won’t be the only creatures to have undergone a major transformation.” - Time Out New York Kids

Two words: sold out! The NYC premiere of Farfalle is a huge success and T.P.O. finally conquered the New York audience. T.P.O. is the leading pioneer of interactive entertainment worldwide, thrilling audiences nationwide and redefining accessibility. This has quickly made them one of the most lauded and unique touring entities in North America. Awarded the Ade Art Digital Era prize, TPO’s stunning visuals immerse family audiences in “sensitive” theatrical environments, based in the use of interactive image and sound technologies in combination with live actors.

Farfalle takes audiences on a magnificent journey through a literal and symbolic story of a Butterfly’s life cycle. The story is “told” by two dancers moving inside a virtual landscape and at times, the spectator is invited to take part, to enter the scene, be enfolded by images which react to their gestures and movements. Beautiful botanical images and captivating rainforest sounds emerge from every direction when a simple stage morphs into a magical playground that responds—in real time—to the graceful movements of the dancers. Even bigger thrills come when young ones from the audience are invited to touch and explore the glowing, interactive garden themselves. The evolution from caterpillar to butterfly has never been so brilliantly staged.

Spring 2011 dates are still available!

ATL HUMANA FESTIVAL PREMIERE! "THE METHOD GUN"

Created by Rude Mechs
Writen by Kirk Lynn
Directed by Shawn Sides
March 16-28, 2010
The Humana Festival
Actor's Theatre of Louisville
Louisville, KY
(March 17-20: Industry
Professionals’ Weekend)

“The Method Gun... is nothing short of the best work this theater collective has done in its 13 years as it has carved out its well-respected reputation on the international indie theater scene.” - Austin-American Statesman

Austin’s Rude Mechs bring their acclaimed work “The Method Gun” this month to The Humana Festival in Louisville for a limited two week run! “The Method Gun” explores the life, ethos, and techniques of actor-training guru Stella Burden of the 60s and 70s. Her technique The Approach fused Western acting techniques and more dangerous methods in an effort to infuse even the smallest of roles with sex, death and violence. Using found text from the journals and performance reports of Stella Burden’s company, “The Method Gun” re-enacts the final months of her company’s rehearsals for their nine-years-in-the-making production of “A Streetcar Named Desire.” The Rude Mechs promise: guns, pendulums, "Streetcar," and physical danger.

The Method Gun / a project of Creative Capital
The Method Gun is available for touring in Spring 2011

WORLD PREMIERE! JAY SCHEIB: BELLONA, DESTROYER OF CITIES

After Samuel R. Delany’s epic science-fiction masterpiece Dhalgren

April 1 - 3 & April 8-10 2010
@ The Kitchen (NYC)

“Scheib may be the most acclaimed experimental American director whose work you have never seen." - TIME OUT NEW YORK

Following Untitled Mars, the critically-acclaimed, Obie Award-winning first installment of his trilogy: Simulated Cities/Simulated Systems, Jay Scheib adapts and directs Samuel R. Delany’s labyrinth world of sexual outlaws, amnesiac poets, and clandestine families. In Bellona, destroyer of the cities, Jay Scheib combines passages from the novel with original material, movement sequences, and live video to trace several intertwining plotlines driven by a group of characters with shifting identities. Set in a city after a cataclysmic event, Bellona, Destroyer of Cities expresses the intricate and at times abstract delineations of race, gender, and sexuality today.

The Kitchen's presentation of Bellona, Destroyer of Cities is made possible with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency.

“Bellona” is currently scheduling dates in
Europe and U.S. throughout the 2010-2011 season.

“A docudrama of the highest order!” - The Associated Press

The New York Theatre Workshop Production
Written by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen
Directed by Jessica Blank

March 20, 2003. A date that the ordinary people of Iraq will never forget. A day that changed their lives forever. In June 2008, the award-winning creators of THE EXONERATED were commissioned by New York Theatre Workshop to travel to Jordan to find out firsthand what happened to the Iraqi civilians as a result of the events that began on that fateful day. They interviewed some 35 people—a cross-section of lives interrupted—who fled the chaos and violence that befell Iraqi society for the relative safety of Jordan. Following the visit to Amman, Jessica and Erik crafted their conversations with the Iraqis and turned them into an unforgettable theatrical event.

Under The Radar Festival 2010 is a program of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters, and is held in conjunction with APAP Conference NYC 2010. Major funding is provided by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Ford Foundation. The Festival is produced by Mark Russell and The Public Theater. www.undertheradarfestival.com

Rude Mechs’ I’VE NEVER
BEEN SO HAPPY returns
to the Off Center!

Rude Mechs is proud to present a work-in-progress presentation of their new western operetta performance experiment. INBSH features music and lyrics by Austin Experimental Punk Grand Wizard Peter Stopschinski (Brown Whornet, Golden Hornet Project), and book and lyrics by Austin Experimental Theatre Mascot Kirk Lynn, fluxuating freely between high art and Hee-Haw, treating both with respect. The music pits a "Grand Ole Opry" style West against an "El Topo" style West. The writing butts lyric poetry up against bar jokes with finesse. The evening challenges what it means to "go to the theater" in 2009 in a way that only the Rudes could muster.

Don’t miss the evolution of this one-of-a-kind project.
